Traditional Moroccan Hammam

Following the advice of Moroccan elders, the traditional Moroccan hammam bath is mandatory for every new mother. It is given to impart natural healing, love, support, care, and warmth to remove the vulnerability of a new mom's experience. Hammams are a wonderful and relaxing way to nurture new mothers and celebrate their journey into motherhood, be it the first or subsequent birth.

During this sacred ritual, new moms are washed from head to toe and treated like the queen they are. Natural Moroccan soaps, clays, and herbs are used from a beautifully displayed ceremonial tray. It is paired with a comforting womb steam of natural herbs to increase the opportunity for ultimate healing and complete wellness. The Bonus: all is done within the comfort of her home!

Closing the Bones (Al-Shedd in Morocco)

Another sacred, ancient tradition native to Morocco, Al-Shedd, or closing the Nfissa (new mother), is performed with a traditional cloth still worn and used by women today. New moms are swaddled, closed, and pulled using these cloths from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes to imbue that same sense of security their babies experience when they are swaddled. This process assists the bones, muscles, and organs in returning to their natural prepregnancy positions. This procedure is completed with a belly binding using the same cloth.

Closing of the bones is not just a physical experience but also an emotional and spiritual experience signaling the end of one stage of life (pregnancy and birth) and the beginning of the subsequent (motherhood). Traditionally, it is combined with other healing and nourishing rituals rather than used alone.

Belly Binding

Mom's tummy is wrapped comfortably in a traditional Kourzia cloth to support the abdomen, womb, and back. Traditional Moroccan doulas use belly binding to help ease the Mom's organs back into their natural positions while supporting her posture. If you suffer from diastasis recti (muscle separation in the abdomen), belly binding can help you recover, strengthen your stomach muscles, and prevent belly overhang. It can be combined with any other service or alone to teach the Nafsa (new Mom) to wrap her belly correctly.

Womb Steam

Enjoy a 30 min womb steam to rejuvenate yourself as well as detox. Great for easing menstrual discomfort, cramps, and bloat with a natural herbal blend. Womb steams also help postpartum moms recover after vaginal birth while soothing sore and stressed perineum tissues. It works best with the Hammam and Closing the Bones but is also available as a standalone treatment.

As a Postpartum Doula,
I  Do Not:

Perform any clinical tasks

I do not track vital signs like blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc., or any personal data as expected from a medical professional. However, if any signs of being unwellness, excessive tiredness, fever, allergic reaction, etc. are noticed on the client, services will stop immediately and the proper care provider will be notified of the issue.

Make decisions for you

Your care plan is made just for you and what you need! You make the decisions as we guide you through the process. Please keep in mind that there are some choices that we reserve the right to refuse, i.e. those posing harm to self or others, those resstricting the rights and freedoms of others. We also promise not to enforce or beliefs, thoughts or choices on you or others.

Speak to the staff on your behalf

We are here to expand your support group. As such, while we administer the care and relaxation you need, your job is to communicate with us your desires and concerns. If you don't tell us, we have no way of knowing. Also, feedback is always encouraged and welcomed, as long as it's done in a respectful and considerate manner.

Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience

Everyone goes through their own experiences and is entitled to their own beliefs and views in life. Though we may share our experience with, we will never implement or enforce those beliefs or choices on you or your loved ones.
